Site Design

Included in my responsibilities as digital graphic designer, I also create the look and feel of the website, DeseretBook.com. Over the years, the site has updated twice to new user experiences and I have helped pave the way for marketing on the website. I am responsible for planning campaign cohesion with the printed catalog and maintain design standards each campaign refresh. I design almost every image seen on the homepage and primary category landing pages.

Since the last website refresh two years ago, I have been in charge of 24 catalog homepage refreshes. These updates include homepage and catalog page imagery which can amass to over 50 images each reset. Our goal is to stay cohesive with the printed catalog so what you see on the pages matches what you see on the site. The cohesion has help boost our online sales gradually.

Below are past site mockups. Promotions and promo codes are no longer valid.

The Process

On the left is a recent design I created when we planned the homepage for the Mother’s Day campaign period. Every campaign period follows the same process and seen by many prior to finding it’s way to the site itself.

Each campaign is planned by the marketing team prior to catalog release. Then the design team creates a look and feel following the campaign mission that will help guide the design of the catalog and homepage final designs. Then I will take all of these resources to create the images for the website. Not only would I create images for the homepage, but I would create a second set of the same images for the responsive mobile version, shown to the left.

After designs are approved, they are then sent to the e-commerce team for publication on the website.

Homepage planner

To help with homepage planning sessions, I create a visualized template so we easily plan out the layout of the site and decide which product should go where or what categories to promote.

Using Adobe XD, I created a mocked version of the website using simple shapes and text. This helped remove confusion over product images so the team could focus on the content and copy. This template has been in use for over a year now.
